Exceptional and unusually wide Swedish early 19th century Gustavian 'à la grecque' console table. Strongly influenced by the late 18th-century fascination with antiquity. The table's apron features a deeply carved and gilded "Greek key" (or meander) motif. The table is supported by four elegantly tapered legs featuring a highly unusual and intricate carved diamond (lozenge) pattern. Attributed to Ephraim Sthal (1767-1820) Supplier to the Royal Court and one of the most sophisticated and inventive makers of his period. ca 1800 - 1810 Stockholm, Sweden.
