Knöl coffee table is made out of mappa burl, a fast-growing tree with deformed outgrowths, creating the characteristic and captivating patterns and irregular forms we love. Knöl 1:1-5/5 gets its outstanding shape from the majestic mappa burl top, sourced in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which rests lightly on three legs made out of Swedish birch. Each leg is shaped by hand into a unique form and carefully placed under the top to create the illusion of levitation. By using materials in the first stages of natural decay each piece gets a unique pattern, without losing its durability. The sections are joined together using invisible wooden pegs and traditional bone glue. Despite the table´s solid shape, the porous mappa burl gives it an unexpected lightness. It is finished off with multiple layers of natural linseed oil wax.
