Inquire Form

18th century Swedish Baroque carved wooden armchair. The tall back features a solid, flat central splat. The heavily ornamented crest rail is carved in deep relief, displaying a central crown resting above a scalloped shell motif and a prominent feline mask, flanked by large, sweeping acanthus leaves. The open armrests feature a continuous downward curve terminating in scrolled handholds. The chair is fitted with a padded seat upholstered in a modern boucle fabric. The base is constructed with cabriole front legs ending in carved ball & claw feet, and plain, raked rear legs. The legs are connected by an H-form stretcher for added structural rigidity, and the front seat rail includes a decorative carved and shaped central drop. ca 1750 Sweden.
